Newly launched Tecnocentro in Curitiba, Brazil, joins forces with Viasphere International in Silicon Valley, USA, to engineer a new breed of technology startups

SANTA CLARA, California, and CURITIBA, Paraná — December 19, 2002 — Viasphere International and Tecnocentro Curitiba today announced a strategic relationship in the areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This relationship will create a bridge between Viasphere and Tecnocentro to commercialize technologies and transplant products in the US and Brazil.

Viasphere International is a Silicon Valley, California, based incubator and accelerator for high technology startups. Since 1999, Viasphere has incubated several cutting-edge startups in enterprise software, embedded systems, electronic design automation (EDA), and semiconductor intellectual property (IP) and devices. Viasphere has led successful technology spin-offs from research institutions and multinationals into commercial entities. In 2001, Viasphere International established a technology park in Armenia (Technopark) utilizing advanced local capabilities in computer science, physics and mathematics. Today, the Technopark continues to successfully bridge Armenia and high technology companies in the US.

Tecnocentro is a state-of-the-art technology center in Curitiba, Paraná, established to host startups, research spin-offs, and foreign subsidiaries in the ICT field. The newly completed facilities of the Tecnocentro were inaugurated December 19, 2002, by Paraná Governor Jaime Lerner. Tecnocentro provides modern facilities and advanced infrastructure to support burgeoning companies in Curitiba. The Center also provides access to the capabilities of the Paraná Institute of Technology (TECPAR) and five universities and research institutions in the area.

Tecnocentro provides low-cost facilities and infrastructure to companies in Curitiba. Strategic consulting and support services are provided by RedeTIC, a consortium to promote the development of ICT in the state. Research and development support is provided by affiliated institutions including CEFET and TECPAR. Viasphere International will provide a window to Tecnocentro through its worldwide network in the US, Europe and the Fast East based on its proven business and technology models.
